Zoya Gul Hasan

Zoya Gul Hasan is a researcher, writer and lecturer with a background in architectural history and design. Her work broadly explores intersections of gender and space in South Asia, troubled archives and creative methods of writing and disseminating histories of material culture. As a recipient of the 2025 Society of Architectural Historians (SAH) IDEAS Research Fellowship, Zoya is currently studying architectures of menstruation in the valleys of Kalash, Pakistan.

The 19th International Architecture Exhibition, titled Intelligens. Natural. Artificial. Collective., curated by Carlo Ratti and organised by La Biennale di Venezia opened in May 2025. A team of eight dedicated Pakistani architects and researchers presented (Fr)Agile Systems, while facing bureaucratic hurdles, visa and shipment delays and the four-day war back home. Zoya Gul Hasan walks us through the installation and ponders Pakistan's future at international art biennales.
